Privacy Policy
ScooterShop is a motorcycle and scooter dealership and workshop at Unit 5 / 6 Cleveland Street, Dianella WA 6059 (ABN 46157594161, dealer licence MD28276, repairer licence MRB5092). This page describes what personal information this website collects, why, who it is shared with, and how to reach us about it.
Our annual turnover is under $3 million, so we are not currently bound by the Australian Privacy Act 1988. We have written this policy to describe what we actually do rather than to meet a minimum, and we will keep it accurate as the law changes.
What we collect
When you enquire or book
Our enquiry, stock-alert, parts and service-booking forms collect your name, email address and phone number, and for a parts enquiry the make, model, year, VIN and engine code of your vehicle. A service booking also collects what you have asked us to look at.
When you buy or hire
An order collects your postal and delivery address and your order history. Western Australian vehicle licensing requires us to verify the identity of a purchaser, so after a deposit is paid the licensing step collects your driver's licence number, date of birth, images of the front and back of your licence, and a photograph of you holding it. We collect these because the transfer paperwork cannot be completed without them.
We never see or store your card details. Card entry happens inside Stripe's own payment form, which is not part of this website's page content.
When you browse
We use Google Analytics, Ahrefs and Microsoft Clarity to understand how the site is used: pages visited, how far down a page people read, where they click, what they searched for to arrive, and an approximate location derived from your IP address. Clarity also records a replay of the mouse movement, scrolling and clicks in a visit.
Session recording is switched off entirely on the pages where you would enter something private. It does not run on any of the following, or anything beneath them:
/dashboard/login/reset-password/checkout/parts/cart/parts/checkout/orders/hire/book/service-booking
That covers the staff portal, sign-in and password pages, every checkout and payment page, the parts basket, customer order pages, the hire booking flow and the service booking form. Recording stops as soon as you navigate onto one of them, not merely when the page is loaded fresh.
On the pages where it does run, the recording currently captures the text on the page, which includes what you type into the contact form, a parts enquiry or a register-interest form before you submit it. We are changing that setting so typed text is masked; until we have, treat anything you type on this site as recorded.
Cookies, and the choice you have
Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity each set cookies to recognise a returning visit. We do not show a cookie consent banner and we are not required to: Australia has no cookie-consent law, and consent under the Privacy Act is required for sensitive information, which website analytics is not.
You can block or delete these cookies in your browser settings, and most browsers also offer a “do not track” or tracking-prevention setting. The site works normally with cookies blocked. We do not use advertising cookies to build a profile of you across other websites.
Who we share it with
We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information. We do share it with the services that run parts of this business, and only for that purpose:
- MechanicDesk— workshop job bookings (Australia)
- Stripe— payments (United States)
- Mailgun— sending email (United States)
- Twilio— sending SMS (United States)
- Google— website analytics and advertising measurement (United States)
- Ahrefs— website analytics (Singapore)
- Microsoft— Clarity analytics and session recording (United States)
- Vercel— website hosting and visit analytics (United States)
Several of these are outside Australia, which means your information is stored overseas. We may also disclose information where the law requires it — vehicle licensing and transfer paperwork goes to the WA Department of Transport.
How long we keep it
Order and licensing records are kept for at least seven years, which is what tax and vehicle-licensing obligations require of a dealership. Enquiries and bookings are kept while they are useful to answering you and to servicing your vehicle afterwards.
We are honest about a gap here: we do not yet delete this information on a schedule, and we are working on one. If you want your details removed, ask us and we will do it.
Marketing
If you sign up for a stock alert we email you about matching stock, and every one of those emails carries a one-click unsubscribe link. We do not add you to a marketing list because you bought something or sent an enquiry.
Security
The whole site is served over HTTPS. Identity documents are stored outside the web-served file area and are reachable only by staff accounts. Access to your own order is by a private link rather than a password you have to remember, and that link stops working once the order is closed.
Asking us about your information
Email admin@scootershop.com.au or call (08) 9433 4613 and we will:
- tell you what we hold about you
- correct anything that is wrong
- delete what we are not required to keep
- tell you if something has gone wrong with your information
We aim to answer within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with how we have handled it, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
Changes to this policy
We update this page when what we do changes, and the date below is the last time it changed. It is not a notice period: if we start collecting something new or sharing with someone new, this page says so before we do.
