Free Parking QEII Medical Centre
What visitors and staff pay at SCGH and Perth Children's Hospital in 2026 — and where parking on the campus is free.

At QEII Medical Centre in Nedlands — Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, Perth Children's Hospital and the rest of the campus — parking is free for the first 15 minutes, in the 15-minute drop-off bays, in ACROD bays, and in any motorcycle or scooter bay, with no permit or registration. That last one is the only option that covers a full day.
Everything else is paid, 24 hours a day. Visitors pay $4.00 for the first hour and $4.00 for each hour after that, up to a $28.00 daily maximum. SCGH and PCH staff pay a capped $6.90 a day at peak, or $5.18 off-peak. Both rate cards took effect on 1 July 2026.
The detail that catches people out: fees are charged per whole hour and are not pro-rata. A 61-minute visit is billed as two hours.

The Cost That Isn't on the Sign: Time
A hospital appointment has a time on it. The Multi-Deck at 9am on a clinic day does not care — and a lap of a full deck with a 2.2m ceiling is a bad way to spend the ten minutes before you are due.

- 2.2m height limits rule out anything with a roof rack or a high roof.
- Then a pay station, then the walk in from wherever you ended up.
- Being early means paying for the extra hour you spent parking in.

Where Parking at QEII Is Actually Free

Located near the main entrances, with a 3.4m clearance rather than 2.2m.
Motorcycle and scooter bays
Free across the campus, all day, no permit and no registration required.
Not free, but worth asking about: eligible SCGH and PCH patients can get subsidised parking, applied through each hospital rather than through the car park.
Motorcycle and Scooter Parking Is Free
QEIIMC states it plainly: "parking is free for motorcycles and scooters, and no permit or registration is required." No ticket, no pay station, and no hourly band to get caught by.
Where the bays are
The Multi-Deck Car Park, between B and C Blocks, outside Q Block on Kondil Lane, and opposite the Lions Eye Institute on Verdun Street.
Two are staff only
Car Park 3 and Car Park 7 have motorcycle bays, but both are restricted to staff.
Use a marked bay
Designated motorcycle bays only — a bike in a standard car bay is an infringement here as anywhere.
A Car Licence Is Enough to Use Those Bays
Free motorcycle parking sounds like it needs a motorcycle licence. In WA it does not. A full car licence — anything but a learner's permit — legally covers a moped: an engine no larger than 50cc, designed not to exceed 50km/h. Read the full WA licence rules.

QEII Parking Questions
Is there free parking at QEII Medical Centre?
Yes, in a few narrow cases and one broad one. The first 15 minutes of any stay is free, though you still have to take a ticket. There are 15-minute drop-off bays at the SCGH and PCH main entrances, and ACROD bays near the main entrances. And motorcycle and scooter parking is free everywhere on the campus, with no permit or registration required — the only option that covers a full day.
How much is parking at QEII Medical Centre for visitors?
From 1 July 2026: free for the first 15 minutes, $4.00 up to an hour, $8.00 for one to two hours, and $4.00 more for each hour after that, reaching $28.00 at six to seven hours. The $28.00 rate then covers you up to 24 hours. Additional charges apply beyond 24 hours.
Why did a one-hour visit cost me the two-hour rate?
QEIIMC charges per whole hour and the fees are not pro-rata. A stay of 61 minutes falls into the one-to-two hour band and costs $8.00, not $4.00. If you are close to the hour, the difference between leaving now and leaving in five minutes is $4.00.
How much do SCGH and PCH staff pay to park?
From 1 July 2026 the capped staff rate is $6.90 for a 24-hour period during peak hours (7am to 6:30pm) and $5.18 off-peak. Five days a week across a working year, the peak cap works out at roughly $1,587 a year.
Where are the motorcycle bays at QEII Medical Centre?
QEIIMC lists designated motorcycle bays at the Multi-Deck Car Park, between B and C Blocks, outside Q Block on Kondil Lane, and opposite the Lions Eye Institute on Verdun Street. Car Park 3 and Car Park 7 also have bays but are staff only. Parking is free for motorcycles and scooters, and no permit or registration is required.
Is there a height limit at the QEII car parks?
Yes. The Multi-Deck, PCH Visitor and Cancer Centre Underground car parks all have a 2.2m height limit, raised to 3.4m for ACROD and loading bays. Visitor Car Park 3A has no height restriction. Height limits are not an issue on a scooter.
Can I ride a 50cc scooter to the hospital on a car licence?
In WA, a full car licence (anything other than a learner's permit) covers a moped — a scooter with an engine no larger than 50cc that is designed not to exceed 50km/h. No motorcycle licence and no separate test, which is what makes the free motorcycle bays reachable for most staff and visitors.
